Christmas in Korea may look the same as it does in any other country. City streets are transformed into a winter wonderland. Lights and trees decorate shopping malls. Salvation Army donation tins[kettles] can be seen in the subway. However, Korean Christmases are usually spent with friends rather than family. Of course, Christians may attend a church service or Catholic mass. But the younger generation's top choice for how to spend Christmas is to be with a girl or boyfriend. However, if you're single come the 24th, the next best thing to do is to celebrate with good friends. Beautiful cakes are a popular staple at Korean Christmas gatherings. There are gift exchanges, but they are nowhere as big or elaborate as in the West. A huge gift-giving holiday for Koreans is lunar New Year's not Christmas.

# Wonderland is an imaginary world that exists in fairy stories.
# The Salvation Army is a Christian organization that aims to spread Christianity and care for the poor. Its members wear military-style uniforms.
# A tin is a metal container with a lid in which things such as biscuits, cakes, or tabacco can be kept.
# A kettle is a covered container that you use for boiling water. It has a handle, and a spout for the water to come out of.
# A staple food, product, or activity is one that is basic and important in people's everyday lives.
# You use elaborate to describe something that is very complex because it has a lot of different parts.

## Extra Topics for Study Groups
1. What do you normally do for Christmas?
2. What kind of Christmas gifts have you bought for other people?
3. Do you know of any Western Christmas traditions?

## My Opinion
In my case, I am so happy to have someone to spend Christmas with. I usually spent Christmases with my girlfriend. If I hadn't. I just stayed at home and watched some Christmas TV programs such Home Alone series and non-stop TV variety show for 10 hours. These days, my girlfriend and I aren't getting along because of my faults, I hesitated to say her to go out. I tried to find out some special place to eat dinner together even though it was tough to reserve because of Christmas eve and asked her out. She said it must be so crowded and expensive. Just let's go a small coffee shop in front of her house. Eventually, I met her there and told her about my considerate thought which is related to my future and my true heart. What if we break up with each other? How would you feel? She thought to feel differently between her brain and heart. Anyway, she smiled and gave me one more chance to recover our relationship. It is the start point to make it be firm not to discard her throughout our 3 years since 10 Feb 2007.

To strengthen our relationship, we must not discard the good time we shared since Feb, 2007.
